Updated Checked by the Tax-Services.ca editorial team How we check
My tax year on Tax-Services.ca lists the CRA dates that apply to you over the next 12 months. For most people the filing deadline is 30 April. If you or your spouse or common-law partner are self-employed, the filing date is 15 June, but any tax owing is still due 30 April. Pick the description closest to yours below. No sign-up is needed, no personal details are asked for, and your pick stays on this device.
Dates that fall on a weekend move to the next business day. Federal holidays are not modelled, so check the CRA for the exact date. Your pick is saved on this device only and is never sent anywhere.
Why do the dates differ by situation?
The dates differ because they depend on how you earn your income. Employees mostly deal with one deadline, 30 April. If you run a business or work for yourself, the filing date moves to 15 June, but the tax you owe is still due 30 April, which trips up plenty of people every June. Instalments and payroll remittances add more dates through the year. The CRA’s due dates and payment dates page for personal income tax lists the filing and payment deadlines.
Which situations can you choose?
You can choose between four situations, and the list changes to match.
- Employee: when employers send out tax slips, the RRSP contribution deadline, and the dates to file and pay.
- Self-employed: the later filing date, the payment date and any instalments the CRA asked you to pay.
- Small business owner with staff: the monthly payroll source deductions due for the previous month.
- Saver or investor: the RRSP contribution deadline, the filing and payment dates and any instalments.
What if a date falls on a weekend?
The CRA treats a due date that lands on a Saturday or Sunday as the next business day, and the list above already does that. Holidays are not modelled, so double-check the exact day on the Canada Revenue Agency site if a date sits close to one.
Dates for 2027 are starting to be set. Our article on the NETFILE closing date for 2027 shows when online filing closes, and the 2027 tax calendar lists the rest.
Where can you read more?
The Canadian tax calendar lists the main dates for the whole year, and Canada’s tax year explains which year each rule belongs to. The guide to filing your return walks through the steps, and the before you file checklist helps you gather your slips. This is an independent information site, not the CRA, and these dates are for general guidance only. We offer no services and accept no liability for decisions based on them, so confirm each date with the CRA. See the full disclaimer.
Frequently asked questions
What is the tax filing deadline in Canada?
For most people the deadline to file is 30 April. If you or your spouse or common-law partner are self-employed, you have until 15 June to file. The CRA's page on due dates and payment dates lists the current dates.
When do I have to pay my tax if I am self-employed?
Any tax you owe is still due 30 April, even though you can file by 15 June. The later date only gives you more time to file, not to pay, so estimate what you owe and pay it by 30 April.
What happens when a due date falls on a weekend?
The CRA treats a due date that lands on a Saturday or Sunday as the next business day, and the dates in this list already move to that day. Holidays are not built in, so check the exact day with the CRA when a date sits close to one.
Does this page save or send my information?
No personal details are asked for, and your pick stays on this device. The page only uses fixed CRA date rules to build the list, so nothing about your tax situation needs to be sent anywhere.
Can I add these dates to my calendar?
Yes. The list has a button that downloads the dates as a calendar file you can open in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook. The dates are general guidance, so confirm each one with the CRA before you rely on it.
