> A short roundup of Canadian tax news for October 2026: the 2027 EI rates, CPP ceilings and RRSP limit, benefit payment dates and the figures still to come.

In October 2026 the main Canadian tax news is that the 2027 EI rates, the 2027 CPP ceilings and the 2027 RRSP limit are out. The 2027 employee EI rate is 1.64% on earnings up to $70,800, with a maximum premium of $1,161.12, the CPP ceilings are $76,700 and $87,400, and the RRSP dollar limit is $35,390. The 2027 tax brackets and TFSA limit are still to come.

This is the October 2026 update. We write one each month from what the CRA and other official sources have published.

## What changed in Canadian tax news in October 2026?

- The 2027 EI rates are out. The [CRA's page on EI premium rates and maximums](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/payroll/payroll-deductions-contributions/employment-insurance-ei/ei-premium-rates-maximums.html) lists an employee rate of 1.64% on earnings up to $70,800, with a maximum premium of $1,161.12. See [2026 vs 2027 tax numbers](https://tax-services.ca/tax-numbers-2026-vs-2027).
- The 2027 RRSP limit is $35,390, up from $33,810, according to the [CRA's table of RRSP, DPSP and TFSA limits](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/registered-plans-administrators/pspa/mp-rrsp-dpsp-tfsa-limits-ympe.html).
- The 2027 CPP earnings ceilings are $76,700 and $87,400, up from $74,600 and $85,000, according to the [CRA's limits table](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/registered-plans-administrators/pspa/mp-rrsp-dpsp-tfsa-limits-ympe.html).
- On the benefits side, the second Canada Groceries and Essentials Benefit payment was due October 5, and the CCB is paid on October 20. See the [CGEB dates](https://tax-services.ca/canada-groceries-essentials-benefit-payment-dates) and [CCB dates](https://tax-services.ca/canada-child-benefit-payment-dates).

## Which 2027 figures are still to come?

- The federal indexation factor, the 2027 tax brackets and the basic personal amount, usually in late November.
- The 2027 TFSA limit.

British Columbia has already paused indexation of its brackets and credits for 2027 to 2030, so its thresholds will not move ([budget tax changes](https://www2.gov.bc.ca/gov/content/taxes/tax-updates/budget-changes)).

We will update the 2027 pages when each one is published. In the meantime the [take-home pay 2027 preview](https://tax-services.ca/calculators/payroll-salary/take-home-pay-2027-preview) shows the effect with clear assumptions, and the [2027 tax calendar](https://tax-services.ca/tax-calendar-2027) has next year's dates.

## What should you do now?

Check your RRSP room before year end, and see the [tax calendar](https://tax-services.ca/tax-calendar) and [My tax year](https://tax-services.ca/my-tax-year) for the dates that apply to you. The [RRSP calculator](https://tax-services.ca/calculators/rrsp-retirement/rrsp-calculator) shows what a contribution saves. Scams spike near deadlines, so read [how to spot a CRA scam](https://tax-services.ca/cra-scams), and keep an eye on the [tax news page](https://tax-services.ca/tax-news) for new CRA announcements.

## Where does this information come from?

The EI, CPP and RRSP figures come from the [Canada Revenue Agency](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency.html) limits table and the OSFI report on the 2027 EI premium rate. The benefit dates come from the CRA benefit payment pages. Checked in October 2026.
