# Sales Tax Calculators: GST, HST, PST and QST

> Five sales tax calculators add GST, HST, PST or QST to a price or remove it again, with the right rate for every province and territory

Sales tax in Canada depends on where the sale happens, and the five calculators in this hub cover each case for 2026. Alberta and the territories charge only the federal GST at 5%. Ontario and the Atlantic provinces use one blended HST. British Columbia, Saskatchewan and Manitoba add a provincial sales tax (PST) on top of GST, and Quebec adds the QST.

For a fast answer at any rate, open the [GST and HST calculator](https://tax-services.ca/calculators/sales-tax/gst-hst-calculator). Type a price to add tax, or a total to take it out. Most purchases need nothing else.

## Which sales tax calculator matches your province?

| Where the sale happens | Tax charged | Calculator |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Alberta, Yukon, Northwest Territories, Nunavut | GST only, 5% | GST and HST calculator |
| Ontario and the Atlantic provinces | One blended HST (13% in Ontario) | GST and HST calculator |
| British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Manitoba | GST plus PST, on separate lines | GST and PST calculator |
| Quebec | GST plus QST | GST and QST calculator |

The [CRA page on charging and collecting the GST/HST](https://www.canada.ca/en/revenue-agency/services/tax/businesses/topics/gst-hst-businesses/charge-collect-which-rate.html) gives Manitoba as an example of a province that keeps its own tax: 5% GST plus 7% PST. Rates for every province sit on the [sales tax by province page](https://tax-services.ca/sales-tax-by-province).

## How do I take sales tax out of a receipt total?

To find the price before tax, divide the total by 1 plus the tax rate, which is 1.13 at 13%. A $113 total in Ontario was a $100 price plus $13 of HST. Doing that sum in your head isn't fun, and the [reverse HST calculator](https://tax-services.ca/calculators/sales-tax/hst-reverse-calculator) does it for any province in one step. Where a separate provincial tax applies, use the GST and PST calculator above, and in Quebec use the GST and QST calculator.

## What about new homes and business costs?

A new home carries GST or HST on the purchase price, although part of it can come back. The [new home rebate calculator](https://tax-services.ca/calculators/sales-tax/gst-hst-new-housing-rebate) estimates the federal rebates, first-time buyer relief and Ontario's share. Land transfer costs are a separate charge and belong with the [property transfer tax](https://tax-services.ca/calculators/property-transfer-tax/property-transfer-tax) tools in the land transfer hub. The [guide to GST, HST and PST](https://tax-services.ca/guides/gst-hst-pst) explains how the pieces fit together.

A registered business can claim back the GST or HST it pays on its costs, which is why invoices show the tax on its own line. If you are a household rather than a business, the [GST/HST credit calculator](https://tax-services.ca/calculators/family-benefits/gst-hst-credit) covers a payment you may receive, which is a different thing from the tax you pay at the till.

Rates are for 2026. When a province changes its rate, we update the tool and note it on the page.
